Welcome. This blog is about human issues. There are many entries about my time in Mexico and Spain, and maybe I'll write a personal entry here or there. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or remarks! ~ Bienvenido. Este blog se trata de cuestiones humanas. Hay muchas entradas de mis meses en México y España, y quizá vaya a escribir unas entradas personales de vez en cuando. Por favor avíseme si tiene preguntas, cuestiones o comentarios!

What is Project Guanajuato?
Project Guanajuato is a community development internship of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Students live in high-emigration communities and mainly teach English classes at local schools. We collaborate with the Fundación Comunitaria del Bajío (FCB) and the Latino Migration Project at the Institute for the Study of the Americas. The FCB, a Mexican non-governmental organization, aims to create economic and social opportunities for people in the Bajío region.
In the state of Guanajuato and many other parts of Mexico, emigration to the United States has many historic roots. Many migrants return home, but, along wih those who did not emigrate, they find that they have less job opportunities if they did not complete their education. When talking to children of the communities, UNC students found that many students had never been encouraged to complete their education, not because their family doesn't want what's best for the child but because the idea simply hasn't always been introduced.
To be continued.
